DAINZU

Stone #3 (Ballplayer #3) “Eight Hill”. This ballplayer reclines with his knees bent on a bench or throne, indicating someone of rank. His right arm rests against the seat and holds a ball; his left arm is extended over his head and holds a rectangular shape, perhaps an implement. The tail of a jaguar hangs below his midsection. He is seated over a symbol of 8 notches surrounding a “hill” shape. This stone’s surface, unlike the others at Dainzú, bears a vertical crack across the middle and it appears that the ancient carver simply worked over this.
