DAINZU

Relief # 86, “Ballplayer with marching feet”. The best known stone from Dainzú is embedded in a well-protected tunnel, and consequently in the best condition. This ballplayer is walking with his glove and ball in his right hand and carries a sea shell in his left. He is fully suited-up for the game with his helmet, a cape, both hands covered with gloves and arms protected. He has an embroidered shirt and a big, thick belt. He sports knee pads and is walking over the prints of three feet, a symbol which means movement or path.
